This new publication
chronicles the history of Mountain Home State Demonstration Forest
from its purchase by the State of California in 1946 to 2000. Among
other things the book describes how selective logging of the forest
made it a profit making enterprise for the state and has created
a prime recreation area. Even with the timber harvesting that has
been done, the forest contains more board feet of timber today than
when the area was purchased.
The book is authored
by past Forest Managers Floyd L. Otter and David Dulitz, and edited
by Dr. Jason I. Otter with pen and ink drawings by Mary K. Otter.
The inside cover has a map of Mountain Home State Forest showing
roads, streams and landmarks mentioned in the text. A chronological
history describes important events in the history of the Forest
from 1946 to 2003. Several pages are devoted to describing the location
of names trees, stumps and logs, as well as locations of bedrock
basins and bedrock mortars. It contains 94 drawings and photographs.
Most of the photographs are in color.
