This book is the story of Jose Lopez, majordomo of the El Tejon Ranchos, 300,000 acres of Rancho El Tejon, La Liebre, Castaic & Agua Caliente from 1873 to his death in 1939. This was first published by Latta in 1976 & reprinted in 2006 by Chris Brewer of Bear State Books. Lopez was first interviewed by Latta from 1916 & up until his death. Lopez was helped in his recollections by his more than 130 volumes of personal diaries. This is a valuable first hand account of early California.
